Course Information

This training course covers the use of the standard C Scope and Radiodetection ‘CAT’ (Cable Avoidance Tool) and ‘Genny’ (Signal Generator) to meet the HSG47 Health and Safety Guideline for avoiding danger from underground services. Each candidate will be instructed in the correct location techniques, methods of detection and limitations of the equipment. For anyone in an organisation who is responsible for tracing underground services prior to excavations....

Who Should Attend?

Cable Avoidance and Service Location (CAT & Genny) training is designed for any person working on the roads, setting out before a build, surveying and any other person excavating an area where pipes or cables may be hidden underground.

Joining Instructions

No previous experience is necessary although some practical experience of groundwork and excavations would be beneficial. Please ensure you bring a hi-vis vest to the course with you, as there will be a practical element to the course out on the surrounding streets locating various cables. It is important that any vehicles see you on the public roads.

Course Agenda

On completion of this course delegates will understand the reasons for using locators, Simple ways to locate street lighting cables, Location of bends, Location of junctions, Identification of utilities, Service connections, Locating through concrete reinforcing, Depth measurement (where applicable), Using Sondes for non metallic pipes and practical work, Hands on locating using receiver; transmitter and accessories..

As a half day course, you can combine this course with any other of our half day courses to create a full days training for little or no extra cost. Why not combine a cable avoidance course with perhaps our basic health and safety course, meaning you get two separate courses delivered on the same day.
XYZ Training Group has the largest selection of Cable Avoidance training courses across the UK. Accredited training starts at £50 per person.

Group Bookings

If you have an enquiry or a need to train 4 or more persons, then why not ask us to deliver you a private CAT and Genny (HSG47) Course course either on your premises or at one of our nearby training centres on any date that's convenient to you?

The price per person is always comparible if not better than joining one of our open course events and you will benefit from the added convenience of not only selecting the date and venue, but we'll also tailor certain elements of the training to your specific application..

In addition to that, if your delegate numbers are low and you don't have an urgent need to have the training in the next few weeks, then talk to us about setting up an open event near to you on a date of your choosing. The course will definitely go ahead as scheduled and you won't need to travel. Minimum 2 delegates.

Whatever your general requirement, make an enquiry here.
