The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) provides a legislative framework for street works activities by undertakers (including public utilities). The efficient co ordination of street works is one of the most important aspects of street works legislation benefiting street authorities undertakers and road users alike. The key objectives of NRSWA are to ensure safety to minimise inconvenience to people using a street including a specific reference to people with a disability and to protect the structure of the street and the apparatus in it.

Who Should Attend?

This programme is designed for Operatives who carry out excavation backfill and reinstatement of various materials for undertaking street works.

Course Agenda

Streetworks For Operatives training course covers all aspects of the NRSWA Unit 1-6 and 9. This includes locating underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation in the highway, reinstatement of compaction and backfill materials, reinstatement of sub base and roadbase non-bituminous materials, reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials, and reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

The course will also cover the legal requirements and regulations for street works, as well as health and safety measures to ensure the safety of both workers and the public. Participants will learn about the different types of equipment and tools used in street works and how to properly use and maintain them.

Hands-on training will be provided to give participants practical experience in carrying out street works tasks. This will include exercises in locating and identifying underground apparatus, setting up proper signage and traffic management, carrying out excavations and reinstatements, and using various materials for reinstatement. Participants will also learn how to properly document and report their work.

If youre travelling on the M8 from the East, simply exit at Junction 4 and take the 03rd exit on the roundabout towards A801 Bathgate Armadale M9. From the West, exit at J5 Shotts and follow the road over the motorway. Then, turn left at the T-Junction towards B7066 and continue for 1 mile until you reach the A89. For those coming from the M9, exit at J4 and take the 02nd exit on the roundabout towards A801. Then, take the 01st exit on the next roundabout and the 03rd exit on the following one towards A89. If youre travelling on the A90 from the North, take the exit at A937 and turn right onto Business Park Road. From the South, take the left junction at Garvock Road/B9120 and turn right onto High St/A937. Then, turn left onto Business Park Road and continue until you reach the training centre.
