The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) provides a legislative framework for street works activities by undertakers (including public utilities). The efficient co ordination of street works is one of the most important aspects of street works legislation benefiting street authorities undertakers and road users alike. The key objectives of NRSWA are to ensure safety to minimise inconvenience to people using a street including a specific reference to people with a disability and to protect the structure of the street and the apparatus in it.

Course Agenda
Streetworks For Operatives training course covers all aspects of the NRSWA Unit 1-6 and 9. This includes locating underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation in the highway, reinstatement of compaction and backfill materials, reinstatement of sub base and roadbase non-bituminous materials, reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials, and reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.
The course will also cover the legal requirements and regulations for street works, as well as health and safety measures to ensure the safety of both workers and the public. Participants will learn about the different types of equipment and tools used in street works and how to properly use and maintain them.
Hands-on training will be provided to give participants practical experience in carrying out street works tasks. This will include exercises in locating and identifying underground apparatus, setting up proper signage and traffic management, carrying out excavations and reinstatements, and using various materials for reinstatement.
