Course Information

The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) provides a legislative framework for street works activities by undertakers (including public utilities). The efficient co ordination of street works is one of the most important aspects of street works legislation benefiting street authorities undertakers and road users alike. The key objectives of NRSWA are to ensure safety to minimise inconvenience to people using a street including a specific reference to people with a disability and to protect the structure of the street and the apparatus in it.

Joining Instructions

Please ensure that you arrive 30 minutes before the start time of the course. Delegates arriving more than 30 minutes AFTER the start of the course will be REFUSED ENTRY AND CHARGED IN FULL. If candidates have any special requirements, please let us know so we can do our best to accommodate. We also urge candidates to let us know of any existing medical conditions so that we can be fully prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency. Canteen facilities are available to purchase food or there are Fridges/Microwaves available if you are bringing your own.

Course Agenda

Streetworks For Operatives training course covers all aspects of the NRSWA Unit 1-6 and 9. This includes locating underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation in the highway, reinstatement of compaction and backfill materials, reinstatement of sub base and roadbase non-bituminous materials, reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials, and reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

The course will also cover the legal requirements and regulations for street works, as well as health and safety measures to ensure the safety of both workers and the public. Participants will learn about the different types of equipment and tools used in street works and how to properly use and maintain them.

Hands-on training will be provided to give participants practical experience in carrying out street works tasks. This will include exercises in locating and identifying underground apparatus, setting up proper signage and traffic management, carrying out excavations and reinstatements, and using various materials for reinstatement. Participants will also learn how to properly document and report their work.

Welcome to The Training Centre in Farnham! Getting here is straightforward. If youre coming from Guildford, hop onto the A31 Hogs Back and follow the signs to Farnham, avoiding the town centre. At the roundabout, take the A325 towards Farnborough, then turn left at the traffic lights onto Hale Road A287. After about 5 miles, look for a BP Garage on your right, and turn right just before the dual carriageway.If youre arriving from the M3 Junction 5, take the A287 towards Farnham and follow the signs. Once you reach the centre, turn left into Rye Common Lane, take the second right, and cross the bridge.
